The Hungry Womxm
I am a freelance writer with a focus on food & culture and a background in community news & multimedia people-led storytelling.
I also work across the editorial and multimedia content of the charity Local Trust, where I use community-led storytelling to drive change. I previously worked as a support worker, as well as the former deputy-editor of Bethnal Green Ldn, Social Streets - a not-for-profit media outlet that champions local journalism to strengthen communities - where I increased the readership by 268% in six months.
My skills lie in foregrounding the individual to broader cultural, political, economic contexts. My writing doesn’t shy away from drawing bold conclusions whilst maintaining a keen eye for detail, dialogue and moments of humanity that bring light and effervescence to stories. My writing shares a quality of ‘show not tell’, illustrating through the compilation of evidence, rich portrait painting and evocative storytelling and scene setting.
I am a critical writer that centres people and human-interest stories. My writing, multi-media production portfolio and work history intersect in matters related to the criminal justice system, gender, social justice, local democracy and food.
My main interest is using food to investigate wider cultural issues.
